Individuals and groups wishing to rent studio space or equipment please meet with the BookWorks director to make arrangements. Contact Laurie Corral at 828.255.8444 or laurie@ashevillebookworks.com to set up an appointment.
All renters:
Payment in advance and maintaining a clean work area including but not limited to sinks, floors, tables, etc. is required. In most cases, a staff person will be available to supervise at the time of rental. Renters sign a release form and take personal responsibility for their own safety. All independent projects should be approved prior to rental. Renting during class times or open studio hours is not permitted. Regular business hours, M- F, 1- 4 pm unless otherwise arranged.
Studio Rental Rates:
$15 per hour for bindery equipment (1-hour minimum)
$20 per hour for print process: letterpress, relief, intaglio, etching, screen printing (1 hour minimum)
$175 weekly
$250 monthly
Group Tours: Group tours for students and book and print lovers with demos in book binding, printmaking and letterpress are available and custom tailored to your group's interests. Costs usually run between $6 - $10 per person for a group size of 10 - 12 with a demo. Private instruction or hands-on workshops designed for small groups are also available.

BookWorks Artist-in-Residence: $325 per month (six month to one year agreement, renewable)
Limited studio spaces available for artists’ working in the book form to maintain their primary work space at BookWorks. Artists-in-Residence have complete access to the studio, 24 / 7. Apply and interview with the director as noted above..
Space Rental for Groups: Art groups related to book arts and print may rent the studio for programming.
$50 day (covers up to 4 hours), 8 hours maximum allowed
Programming and limited equipment use approved prior to rental and a signed rental agreement.
Cutting equipment:
Renters must have taken at least one binding class at BookWorks and have knowledge of proper use and safety precautions for all cutting equipment. One hour minimum and two hours maximum at any given time. Please call in advance to reserve day/times. Not available for rent during class times or open studio hours.

- Guillotine and Corner Rounder (paper only)
- Board Shears (cloth, paper and book board)
- Hot Foil Stamper (renters supply foil)
- Corner Rounder
Letterpress Equipment:
A $50 type deposit is required in addition to payment in advance. Refund is returned when all type has been distributed and presses are clean. Independent projects will be approved in advance. Must have taken two to three letterpress classes at Bookworks or equivalent (discretion of the director), show competent printing skills and knowledge of general press care and maintenance. Students supply their own materials. Some inks and solvents are available for use in the studio.

Etching Press:
Renters must have taken two to three printmaking classes at BookWorks or equivalent (discretion of the director), show competent printing skills and knowledge of general press care and maintenance. Some inks and solvents are available for use in the studio.
Available equipment:
Binding Studio:
Rental includes use of cutting equipment, tables, book presses, sinks and backing presses. Tabletops must be protected with a cutting mat at all times.
